State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday notified that after due consideration it has postponed the election process in seven municipal and town councils for two months.
In a notification, the State Election Commissioner Sentiyanger Imchen said the election process was postponed after the commission received a letter from Home department on January 31 and also as per the January 31 Cabinet’s decision.
The following details were issued by the State Election Commission where elections have been postponed
1. Dimapur Municipal Council, 2. East Dimapur Town Council, 3. Kiphire Town Council, 4. Tseminyu Town Council, 5. Bhandari Town Council, 6. Wokha Town Council, 7. Zunheboto Town Council
Elections in 12 town councils to be held on February 1 as per schedule
1. Peren, 2. Jalukie,3. Tening, 4. Aboi, 5. Tobu, 6. Tizit, 7. Naginimora, 8. Shamator, 9. Noklak, 10. Pungro, 11. Longkhim, 12. Longleng
Candidates elected unopposed: In the following three Town Councils–Meluri, Phek and Tuli the candidates have been declared elected, and hence no polling is necessary.
No polls in 10 councils: While nominations to the following ten Municipalities and Town Councils could not take place, and hence no election will be held– 1. Kohima, 2. Mokokchung, 3. Pfutsero, 4. Chozuba, 5. Changtongnya, 6. Mangkolemba, 7. Tuensang, 8. Mon, 9. Medziphema, 10. Chumukedima.
