International Human Rights Council (IHRC) Nagaland State Board have condemned the murder of New Market GB Abdul Kayum Talukdar on June 7. In a condemnation note, IHRC president, Akavi N Zhimomi said that Nagas have sought peace over bloodshed and violence, but the particular incident that occurred in the lone commercial hub of the State has raised question.
The incident has put the entire community back to the dark past and seemed to remain intact the gun violence, a force to over-powering an individual or group using gun power, IHRC said. Akavi said the incident was a direct violation to the most basic and important rights which nations and international communities strive to protect and provide, the Right to life.
IHRC said that there were several laws and rights that even protect criminals from being treated inhumanly but it was unfortunate to witness the brutal killing of a man in public. The council therefore demanded justice and punishment as befitting by the law and also conveyed deepest condolences to the victim’s family.
