ATMA Tuensang organizes farmers’ tour

Twenty farmers including a farm school teacher representing seven Agri & Allied departments went on a 3 days exposure to Mokokchung district led Thungdemo Humtsoe of LRD and Leyang of fishery department as team leaders.
The objective of the tour was to create awareness among the farmers about the different agricultural activities that their fellow farmers are doing in other district with the theme ‘Seeing and Harvesting is Believing’.
The team proceeded with a prayer by Pastor Tuensang village on March 18 after a short briefing by convener, BTT, Sangsangyu Block, Dr. Lanu Jamir. This exposure tour was organized by ATMA Tuensang under the scheme ‘Support to State Extension Programmes for Extension Reforms’.
The team on the first day visited government sericulture farm at Kubolong where, superintendent Jungshi explained about rearing of both mulberry & non-mulberry silk worms and its productions. They also visited the nurseries and eri-culture Laboratory. Later, PD, SARS, Yisemyong, Sosang took the team to Aier tea park and tourist spot at Mopungchuket village. He briefed them about tea cultivation and the different wood crafts depicting Ao tradition and proceeded to SARS hostel and had a review and interaction session of the day.
On the second day, R.O Nungsang took the team around state agricultural research station and explained about aqua culture, different fruit orchards, vegetables and cereals cultivation, vermicompost unit, diary and piggery units, landscaping and organic farming, soil testing lab, Hi-cost hi-tech rose cultivation and cold storage-cum-grading unit, coffee garden, apiculture, piggery and later he took the farmers to Changtongya banana chips factory.
On the last day, the team visited tea processing unit at Longsa.
Meanwhile, ATMA Tuensang has conveyed its heartiest gratitude to Tekatoshi, PD ATMA Mokokchung, Sosang, PD, SASRS, Jungshi, Superintendent of Sericulture, Nungsang, RO & staff of SASR, Yisemyong and the proprietor of Banana chip factory Changtongya for extending their professional guidance and all necessary help.
