Buildings in state not safe from earthquake

A training Programme on Earth Quake Resistance Technology for Engineers and masons was held at DC’s Conference Hall Mokokchung on June 26. Engineer Imnameren, SDO, PWD (R&B) who was the resource person disclosed that the entire North Eastern Region was under Earth Quake zone-V and that many RCC buildings particularly in the state were not safe from earthquake magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale
Resource person stressed on the need to be equipped with the knowledge of earthquake resistances technology of building construction. He presented the topics through power point presentation on some of the major earthquakes that have been experienced in different parts of the country in the recent past and adopting a modern technology of construction to make the buildings earthquake resistant.
According to an official bulletin, the training programme under Government of India-United Nation Developmental programme (GOI-UNDP) was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, C.M. Tsanglao.
In his address, DC expressed hope that it would help the Engineers in designing and building houses, particularly the reinforced buildings safe from natural disasters such as earthquakes. He also said that such training would set a trend to embark on construction of buildings safe from earthquakes and other calamities.
