With the objective to deliberate issues relating to planning, designing, implementation and also methods for quantifying the impacts of soil and water conservation measures, a two day training program on soil and water conservation for professionals of department of soil and water got underway on July 16 in the departmental conference hall.
The program started with an inaugural function attended by Y. Kikon, Additional Secretary to the Government of Nagaland as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by the Director R. T. Asang. In the key note address the visiting resource person Dr. B.C. Kurse, assistant Professor stated the importance of the soil and water conservation measures for the state and the problems associated with proper project planning for achieving desired goals. He mentioned that the training program was designed in such a way that it provided a comprehensive approach for preparing project proposals, designing works and also to quantify benefits. He further stated the experiences in implementing soil and water conservation works by international agencies such as World Bank and Food and Agricultural Organization.
During the inaugural speech, he said that the department should try to learn and interact with the visiting resource persons so that maximum knowledge is gained to achieve the desired objective of the department and aid in enhancing agricultural production for self sufficiency of the state.
Other resource person was Dr U.M.Hazarika, assistant Professor from NERIWALM
The programme was chaired by deputy director M. M. Solo, course coordinator and was attended by over 30 officials.
The training is organised by NERIWALM (North East Regional Institute of Water and Land Management)
