Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) conducted training cum awareness campaign on Engineered Bamboo Structural Applications in front of DC’s office complex.
In their campaign, the NBDA has constructed a gazebo at the site of the training which would be serving multiple purposes. The main objective of the NBDA was to let people know the importance of bamboo and its applications in everyday use.
NBDA said bamboo was not a new thing to Nagas and that with just a little bit of extra effort like cutting, twisting with additional tools; people could have world class finished products made out of bamboo.
NBDA team members also said gazebo was a small structure in the likes of a waiting shed or a rest house. The construction at Mokokchung is the third initiatives undertaken by NBDA after Dimapur and Kohima and plans to build each gazebo in all the district headquarters in due course of time.
The construction of the Gazebo is very unique as various new technologies were used. The noticeable item is the roofing material that was used in the construction which is corrugated bamboo sheets.
These sheets are eco-friendly, heat resistant besides longevity that lasts for about 40-50 years. According to NBDA corrugated sheets were at a trial stage and the cost of the sheet is quite expensive and cost factor will be worked out in the later stage.
The training is imparted to local unemployed youth hands on by expert technicians. About 10 youths are being trained which will later be made into skilled technicians. NBDA adds that so far there were about 20 skilled technicians in the state though the demand for such structures was high outside the state. The NBDA aims to increase the number of skilled technicians in order to meet the high demands, thereby to create employment opportunities to many Naga youths.
