Sensitization programme on OVCs held at Niuland

Issues of survival, health, and education, of children infected and affected by HIV was discussed at a sensitization programme held November 19 at Sumi Baptist Church, Niuland.
Assistant director of Prodigals’ Home Maong Jamir raising the paramount concern of many parents infected with HIV, and many children being orphaned by AIDS said children of sex workers, children of drug users, domestic helps, and street children were oftentimes neglected and discriminated.
Speaking on ‘issues of orphans and children vulnerable to HIV’, Jamir appealed in particular, the church to rise to the challenge of tackling the present day social concerns of the neglected children. While acknowledging the role of some churches extending help in tackling the challenges through spiritual and monetary helps, Jamir stated that church could still do and contribute so much more, “given its enormous resource and manpower”.
