Various Naga organizations have expressed strong condemnation over the decision of the Manipur government to prevent the entry of NSCN(I-M) leader Th.Muivah, who was to visit his native village,Somdal, in Ukhrul district.
The Tenyimi People’s Organization (TPO) expressed concern over the prevailing situation arising out of Manipur’s ban on Th. Muivah’s visit .
It said the curfew and 144 CrPC directly targeted Nagas, particularly the Tenyimis. TPO said thousands armed personnel were deployed in Tenyimi areas were creating psychological and physical harassment. Questioning the Manipur cabinet’s decision against Muivah, it averred that the world was no longer the same as in the past where one community dominated another. TPO appealed for peace and harmony in order to progress together.
Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) flayed Manipur for its persistence on banning the visit of Th. Muivah to hometown. NPMHR South convener, Phamhring Sengul stated that Nagas have no choice but conclude that the Manipur government promotes intolerance and violence. It appealed to all Nagas as well as other communities to uphold principles and values of peace and harmony.
Naga Hoho and Naga Students’ Federation have re-affirmed their commitment to ensure that Th.Muivah is able to visit his native village. Observing that the proposed visit may be delayed so as to facilitate proper arrangements, the two bodies expressed optimism that good sense would prevail among the neighboring communities. They however cautioned against taking anything for granted and urged the “ato kilonser” to consider their collective effort as they considered his life and services important to the Nagas.
Concerned Senior Citizens’ Forum, Mokokchung has also criticized the decision to prevent the entry of Th. Muivah to Manipur. Describing the decision as disturbing the peace process by Muivah on “Indo-Naga” political talks, CSCF asserted that every citizen has the right to enter his native village and said no authority should prevent free movement of a leader who endeavored for peace in the land.
