field day on SRI conducted in Mokokchung

Under research extension and farmer linkages (REFL) programme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and ATMA along with low land paddy farmers of Mokokchung district took up multi-location trials of SRI (System for Rice Intensification) at different agro ecological situation.
Out of 4 trials, field day was conducted on November 22 at Longnak valley under Mangkolemba block at farmer field. During the programme session farmers’ were taught on post harvest management and discussed on refinement as per farmers’ preferences about the new system of cultivation and its adaptability.
Farmer Imkongsashi shared his experiences and outcome/result of the new system cultivation right from the nursery till harvest stage. Farmers also actively participated in field analysis by recording the important crop parameters like number of effective tillers, length of root, length of panicle and number of grains per panicle.
Samuel Sangtam SMS, KVK, also explained the advantages of this new system and encourage the farmers to take up this method for better yield and efficiency use of the available resources.
