Abridge course in engineering soon

Observing that the academic backgrounds of the students in the state did not equip them to take on an engineering course, Nagaland University vice-chancellor, Prof K. Kannan said the varsity would soon start abridged courses in engineering.
He said the lack of proper background in the field of engineering had left many seats vacant.
“My biggest dream is to see that Nagaland gets the best technological benefits of 21st century”, Kannan said while addressing the 1st inter-departmental quiz competition -cum-freshers’ meet 2008 of School of Engineering Technology and Management (SETAM), NU, Friday in Dimapur. He said the students will have access to video lectures of 350 professors both from their hostel and department through wi-fi connection.
Stating that the institution had been set up in a unique fashion for students to learn their subjects, the vice chancellor hoped to start various other programmes in the university. He also encouraged the students to get into the culture of hard work.
SETAM which was started on November 12, last year has six departments including computer science; information & technology department; agri department; electronics & communication; MBA and bio-technology department. It has 146 students in total out of the 300 students’ capacity.
In the first ever departmental quiz competition participated by all six departments, information & technology department emerged as the winner with 180 points while the MBA department notched a close 175 points to be contended with second position.
Tiasenla of Bio-technology department and Debashish Sen of computer science were adjudged Miss and Mr Freshers’ title respectively.
Other highlights of the programme included special numbers, speeches on behalf of seniors and freshers, dances etc. The programme was sponsored by Symbios Creations Private Limited while OM textiles and Imperial Computers co-sponsored the programme.
