Non-NPF Phek candidates allege EVM tampering

Non-NPF candidates of Phek district have alleged that the result of the February 2013 election was “fraud with manipulation by tampering” of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

In a statement, 11 non-NPF candidates– Vaprumu Demo (INC), Chitho Nyuso (INC), Vezokho Chotso (IND), Kevechüto Doulo (IND), Vivolie Kezo (IND), Er. Vekho Swuro (IND), K. Therie (INC), Z. Lohe (NCP), Dr. K. Hoshi (INC), Thenucho Tunyi (UNDP) and Vetetso Lasuh (INC) said they have submitted a complaint to ECI and expressed hope that the issue would be examined.

They asserted ten years of DAN misrule led to an anti-incumbency against DAN. However, they said  pre-poll calculations and predictions, except in the case  of NCP and independents turned out to be wrong where NPF won by landslide and Congress faced a colossal defeat.

They pointed out that “paperless EVMs” are banned in Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Florida and Japan owing to their vulnerability to tampering.

They also opined that failure to ensure transparency (physical proof of voting) was an infringement on the fundamental right of the electorate.
