No UPDS accord on October 24

October 22, 2011 | by admin

Process for signing of the tri-partite accord between United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) of Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, the Centre and the Assam government on October 24 at New Delhi, has met with an unexpected development when both the union home ministry and Assam government rejecting demands for dissolving the Autonomous Council.

UPDS had demanded dissolution of the Karbi Anglong ADC immediately after signing of the accord and handing it over to a neutral administration till elections were held.

The UPDS chairman, Horen Bey was of the view that if both the centre and state “fluctuated” from their previous stand it will decline in signing of the accord on October 24.

UPDS said it will only agree to go ahead with the process if government ensures that their pre condition was honored.
The development has jolted the rank and file of the UPDS while it has been welcomed by the Congress which is power of the KAAC.
