One-day workshop on ‘track child’ was held in Zonal Council Hall, Kohima by State Child Protection Society (SCPS), Nagaland in collaboration with National Informatic Centre (NIC) Delhi. Dr. Goutam Mukherjee, (sr. tech. director) and Ritam Banerjee (sr. software engineer) were the resource persons.
NIC team highlighted on the objectives of the workshop and stated that online ‘track child’ portal was dedicated to the cause of tracking, missing and vulnerable children.
The portal holds the database of children staying at different child care institutes and was an initiative of women and child development, government of India to track the progress of children of every CCI in the country.
It also aims to track missing children in the country. NIC team also presented an online demonstration on “track child”.
The issue of missing and untraced children has become a matter of concern over the years and chances of tracing these children has increased significantly by introduction of computerized databases and computerized search relating to lost and found children created and maintained by various states/UTs through ‘missing person bureau’ under the state police and the child care institutions maintained by the state women and children departments under Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and under Juvenile Justice Act (JJA) respectively which are linked and converged.
Further, hands-on training for officers – ICPS/police was conducted by NIC team. It may be mentioned that the information based application developed by NIC under the aegis of ministry of women and child called “track child” is available at www.trackchild.gov.in and has been piloted in West Bengal by CID since 2008.
At present, 18 states/UTs i.e., Gujarat, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, Tripura and Sikkim has taken up the initiative, although there is a need to come up to a common national platform.
