Lipok vouch to work for youth

Lipok Pongen, NPF candidate from 2 Dimapur-II A/C in the recently held state assembly election on Thursday said he was overwhelmed by the love and support showered upon him by his supporters.

Pongen who lost to veteran S.I. Jamir of INC, speaking before a huge gathering of supporters at a thanksgiving programme at State Stadium, Dimapur, said he contested in the assembly election from 2 Dimapur-II A/C as he felt it was his responsibility to let people from different walks of life live in peace and harmony and also develop the 2nd biggest constituency in the state.

He also disclosed his topmost priority was empowerment of youth, as most of the voters in the constituency comprised of young people.

Pongen admitted he was defeated in the election due to “technical elements”. “I cry today because the dreams of youth, who are the future have been shattered,” said Lipok while also urging the youth not to be discouraged by stating that he would still remain their “uncle and a leader” and remain “devoted” to them till his last breathe.

Encouraging the youth (his supporters) to be strong and not be discouraged as there were many avenues ahead, Lipok was confident that the two NPF elected representatives from Dimapur would do the needful.

He said that though his life was also attempted, he was saved by the grace of God in order to face the challenges ahead by being humble to the Almighty and the people.

“We have lost the war but we have won hearts of the people,” he said and further added that he would always remain a leader for the people especially the youth.

Meanwhile, some of the youth who supported Lipok said their “dreams” were shattered due to “non-cooperation” from their parents in electing Lipok.
