Seminar on “Fortnight observation on elimination of violence against women” was held on Sunday at KTBL church on the theme “From peace in the home to peace in the world” with more than 500 women from Kiphire town and 28 villages participating at the seminar.
The seminar was organized by Akehda Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang (AST) of Kiphire unit. C. Alila Sangtam of AST quoting from Section 375 of IPC said “sexual intercourse without the consensus of women is considered as rape,” and therefore asked all women to be alert.
Alila also explained various points for women such as domestic violence, to know their rights, equality before law, equal opportunities in employment and things that have being guaranteed for women under the constitution of India.
After the program, there was a distribution of booklet to all units under Kiphire district which was issued by Nagaland State Commission for Women. Meanwhile, President of AST Kiphire unit has expressed gratitude to Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) for organizing the program for women and making available all necessary materials such as booklets, banners etc., on women’s rights.
