Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has expressed its dismay over non-development of Mokokchung town despite adequate funds being provided by the state government.
MCCI president, Moasangba Jamir, and information secretary, Limalenden Longkumer in a release stated that Mokokchung town over the years, has failed to develop at par with other district headquarters in the state in terms of public utility infrastructure like roads, drainage system and footpaths.
MCCI, an organization “seriously committed” in raising the standard of life, said that it was dismayed on learning that funds sanctioned by the state government for development of Mokokchung district were being “misused and misappropriated” by certain “heartless individuals”.
“Crores of rupees were being sanctioned under the state plan works programme alone for development of Mokokchung most of which are siphoned off,” stated the MCCI signatories and therefore added it was constrained to issue the notice on behalf of all the consumers of public services.
Pointing out PWD (housing), PWD (R&B) and urban development departments should judiciously and efficiently implement developmental activities, the statement also said that all the contractors and beneficiaries who were issued work orders must perform their duties and implement the work on the ground as projected in their respective work estimates.
MCCI stated that the respective executive engineers and district urban development officer of the departments concerned must not release the bills unless tangible works were being done as per the approved work estimates.
MCCI said the officers concerned would be held solely responsible if the funds are released before the actual works are executed and cautioned all concerned that MCCI would procure all details through Right to Information (RTI) Act at an appropriate time.
Further, MCCI has requested all ward authorities under Mokokchung municipality and all right thinking citizens of Mokokchung district that any discrepancies found in implementation of these works, if any, may be reported to MCCI for due course of action, in person during office hours or through telephone number 0369-2229678 or email mkg.mcci3@gmail.com.
