Around 1257 phials of banned cough syrup (Phensedyl) containing 100 ml each were seized from the possession of two brothers hailing from Manipur who got down at Dimapur Railway Station from Delhi by Brahmaputra Mail in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to inspector Rokonicha Pucho of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Dimapur, he along with sub-inspector P.R. Meena, head constable V.K Sema and constable W. Khan detected the consignment.
He said that the two brothers were checked on suspicion after they got down from the train at platform No.1 at Dimapur railway station and found that the banned syrup were concealed in three bedrolls which they were carrying.
On interrogation, the two identified as Thangno Thomte (31) and P.C Lian Thomte (26), son of Sianlian Muang of Simveng village, New Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur, confessed that they were working in Delhi in a private firm and were returning home for holidays.
The two said they were asked to carry the consignment by someone on a payment of Rs.10,000. It may be mentioned that the banned cough syrup priced at Rs.80 for 100 ml costs around Rs.300 in local black market.
