NSCN (I-M) and GPRN/NSCN functionaries have left Nagaland for Chiang Mai, Thailand Saturday for another round of meet on reconciliation.
NSCN (I-M) team, comprising of four members, was led by steering committee and convener of its political affairs committee V.S. Atem while GPRN/NSCN team comprising of three members was led by kilonser C. Singson.
Both the leaders are also conveners of Joint Working Group (JWG) on reconciliation. The teams would be leaving Kolkota for Chiang Mai Sunday.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, Atem said the meeting this time would discuss the process of Naga reconciliation.
He exuded confidence that there would be realization of the “ground reality” and understanding of the Naga issue in the right perspective so that the Naga Reconciliation also follow suit.
When asked about the status of the ongoing talks with the government of India, Atem said that nothing was hidden from the Nagas.
He said that for many years the Nagas have been fighting for their rights. “We are still discussing on sovereignty. We have been discussing about sovereignty with government of India too”, Atem added.
Meanwhile, JWG Convener Singson said that the Chiang Mai meeting would be the continuation of the reconciliation process.
While stating that GPRN/NSCN had no comment on the ongoing talk between NSCN (I-M) and the government of India, Singson also said that for the past four years, his side has been trying to come out with something but “we have not been able to break the ice” and asked why so much time has been taken for the Nagas to reconcile.
“It is not that we have not achieved anything. Killing amongst the Nagas have come down to a low level. Who is to be blamed now?” asked Singson.
He conjectured that top Naga leaders “were not bold enough to have projected their views” and come out with the points which would be the best for the Nagas so that the other members would deliberate on those points and come out with a conclusion.
Other GPRN/NSCN members accompanying Singson to Chiang Mai include Alezo Venuh, the GPRN/NSCN envoy to the collective leadership and secretary to envoy Lhokuto Chishi.
Convenors of JWG of the signatories to the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) include VS Atem of NSCN (I-M); NNC/FGN vice president Zhopra Vero and C. Singson of GPRN/NSCN.
