Former president NPCC and MLA K V Pusa on Wednesday urged the Nagas to set aside their differences and political ideologies and come together to facilitate the ongoing peace process.
Addressing the general conference of Southern Angami Gazetted Officers at Pfuchama village near Kohima, Pusa said a time has come for Nagas to unite work for an honourable and acceptable solution to the vexed Naga political problem.
He said despite differences in political ideologies, all 60 members of the state Assembly have come together and formed the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) to facilitate the peace process so that solution could be arrived at the earliest as desired by the people.
He urged the people to follow the example of the Naga lawmakers and come together for a consensus on the issue so that a solution could be hammered out.
He said the forming of JLF was historic, as all members cutting across party lines came together and apprised the union government of the need to resolve Naga issue without further delay.
He said the 60 members met the prime minister, home minister and several top Indian political leaders and requested them to hammer out a solution which would be honorable and acceptable to the people.
The 60 members, he said, have even decided to resign from the Assembly to pave the way for a solution which was a strong commitment taken by lawmakers. Pusa urged the officers from the Southern Angami area to be part of the peace process alongside with Naga organizations. The congress leaders also urged officers to be sincere and dedicated in their work so that Naga society could progress.
He said Nagas want to progress along with the rest of the world community and for this, they are looking for a permanent peace in the state. Pusa said Nagas cannot be left behind as they were second to none, but added that they have to take a consensus decision to resolve outstanding issues.
Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA, Er. Vikho-o Yhoshu who also spoke in the programme, urged the people to work for peace in the state, stating that the 60 member have shown an example to the people in an effort to facilitate peace process.
On the occasion, the officers’ union also released the list of officers from Southern Angami area and adopted a constitution. It may be mentioned that the area has nearly 500 gazetted officers with Viswema village having the highest number of officers.
