Social Welfare department (SWD) issued a clarification with regard to a report on “rampant irregularities in the supply and quality of food items”, published on March 22 in a local daily (not Nagaland Post), where the department said the report alleged that it was supplying expired food items such as Balbhog, Top Ramen, Maggi and Corn powder as quoted in the paper.

In a statement, Social Welfare department director, Khevito T. Shohe and OSD, T. Merangtsungba Aier said “incidentally on the same day, the minister, secretary and the director were verifying the Non Government Organisation godowns in Dimapur in which they took the opportunity to verify the quality of the various food items and recorded that the food items were properly stored, packed and manufacture date properly printed”.

It said “such practices as alleged do not exist as the department is dealing with the most vulnerable section of the society and is not in the moral ethics of any department”.

In this regard, the department further appealed to all interested individuals/ groups to personally visit any Anganwadi centre and verify the supplied food items.

The department of Social Welfare strongly refutes the allegation and appealed to the public not to be misled by such reports published in the news papers.
