NWHD members claim Hoho defunct

Naga Women Hoho (Dimapur) members comprising of– Chakhesang, Rongmei, Poumai, Pochury, Liangmai, Zeme and Mao tribes representatives claimed that the Hoho was now defunct and that they have “rejected” and “opposed” the hoho’s search committee’s report on formation of new office bearers.

Claiming there was ‘isms’ and divisions within the hoho, the members also accused Naga Council, Dimapur (NCD) of being “one-sided.”

Interacting with media person, the members echoed that they do not want a “tinted, unethical woman leader” but a “qualified, truthful and efficient” leader who would not bring “ism, majority, minority divisions” within the hoho.

The members also lashed out at NCD for interfering in the affairs of NWHD even when the council was not officially approached for consultation.

Maintaining that they do not have anything against any particular tribe or individuals, the members said that they were protesting against the “unethical” proposal of the search committee to re-elect Hukheli T. Wotsa and Mmhalo Ngullie as the president and vice president respectively.

“We are against the report of the search committee, we will not accept it…. the Hoho is defunct now and we want it to be run by new office members” said former general secretary NWHD, Liangsi Mao.

Reiterating her statement, former president NWHD Tiala Sapuh alleged that ‘isms’ and divisions within the Hoho cropped up under the leadership of the then president Hukheli T. Wotsa. Sapuh while accusing Wotsa of not being “transparent” claimed that “some members”, in her team, felt that she failed to be “transparent and accountable” during her tenure.

She accused Wotsa of not holding yearly audit and annual session even once during her five-year tenure adding that the annual audit which “seemed” to have done was “invalid” as the audited statement was still a “mystery” to the office bearers and executive members.

Sapuh also accused Wotsa of favouring “four major Naga tribes” over the rest of the applicants for the DMC election by “deliberately” leaving out the rest.

On selection of sessional chairperson and secretary, Sapuh said that Komuni Pfozhe was selected by the house however Khrieleno Terhüja opposed it and instead proposed Homi Shishak’s name.

Stating that this was a clear example of “undemocratic practice”, Sapuh further accused Terhüja of questioning the “rationality” of Chakhesang Mother’s Association for not voting for Hukheli T. Wotsa.

Sapuh said that on November 23, 2012, during a meeting convened by NCD, some NCD male members threatened the women who stood for right and justice and accused NCD for failing to control the “hostile attitude” of its members, especially a vice president and a councilor.

Asserting that such kind of “threat, violent and dominant attitude” should be condemned by all, Sapuh termed it a “rude attitude”.

“This negative attitude of few members of Naga Council is questionable for the sake of future generations and the rest of the office bearers and executive members have not witnessed the hostile scene that day” said Sapuh.

Those present at the press conference included president of Rongmei unit G Shanti; president of Poumai unit Kanai; president of Pochury unit Ghuchi Snock; vice president of Liangmai unit Alianglin and member Sariliu; Zeme unit president Tingbale; vice president Mao unit Sania and former NWHD general secretary Liangsi and former NWHD president Tiala Sapuh from Chakhesang unit.
