State minister for Roads and Bridges Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu has assured changes in the development of roads in the state within three years with the help of an experienced and efficient commissioner secretary. He has also planned to introduce new policies in order to improve the current working system.
Briefing media persons Thursday afternoon at his office chamber, Azo also warned that he would not hesitate initiating action against anyone found indulging in corruption.
He said implementation of works would be monitored to check diversion of funds besides blacklisting defaulting contractors.
Azo said achievable targets would be set adding that Dimapur, Kohima and Phek districts were in the top priority list besides one in Eastern Nagaland areas. He said target was likely to be achieved within four to five years.
On introducing new policies, Azo said “rate committee” would be formed for revision of rates so that contractors engaged in quality works. He said a monitoring cell was likely to be formed and changes made in tendering system while introducing joint ventures.
The minister disclosed that roads in the state did not last due to poor specification and said strong specification (standard specification that has to be four layers) would be imposed.
