The 41st foundation day of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH), 5 kms away from state capital was observed on April 16.
Addressing the gathering, Kezhokhotuo Savi, former president Rotary Club Kohima, said it was God’s call to take care of children who have no family particularly in a Christian state like Nagaland.
He said the orphanage home face many challenges as the children need love, care and guidance, adding, the school going children need proper conveyance.
Earlier, the programme started with a prayer by pastor, David Yashü, scripture reading by Zuben, 9 special songs were presented by the orphanage children including dedicatory song to late Ama Zaputuo-ü Angami, founder of Orphanage home and vote of thanks by Neibanuo home mother.
It may be mentioned that Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home has 80 children between the age group of 1 year 6 months (youngest) to 30 years (oldest).
Many of the children study at SSA school, Northfield school Kohima, Mezhür Higher Secondary school, Baptist high Kohima and Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
Besides donations from various NGOs and well wishers, the children of the home are engaged in piggery, poultry, rabbit rearing and others to support themselves. Many well wishers from different walks of life attended the programme.
