Viswema Kewhira Kelhouko Krotho (VKKK) has condemned the June 7 incident when one of its bonafide member, Vikono, an office staff in PWD department at Kohima and daughter of late Mhashenil Naleo was assaulted by some unknown persons at Mohonkhola while on her way to refill LPG.
VKKK in a press release jointly issued by its president, Sweyiekrol Thapo, and general secretary, Vizovol Mekro, stated the victim after getting her LPG refilled was sitting in the front seat of a taxi waiting for her cousin sister when three unknown persons suddenly started firing at her and the driver with pistols from across the road.
Startled by the “lethal attack”, Vikono and the driver Nuvohu Rhakho got out of the vehicle and ran up the steps of her cousin’s house even as the gunmen continued to fire when a bullet missed her head while another “nicked” her on the leg before she reached the safety of the building while the driver who was following behind, was hit and seriously injured, said VKKK.
The life attempt on two innocent persons which was later reported as a case of mistaken identity has made the act itself “reprehensible and unacceptable” in the society, added VKKK and said it was “shocked and angered over the gross act of violence carried out carelessly and callously on innocent citizens”.
The organization said the incident was not the first of its kind as in the past too, the Krotho has lost several endearing members to “assassin bullets for no reasons whatsoever” and added it would “not tolerate nor passively watch others inflict unwarranted harm on any of its innocent members”.
