The salubrious environs of Sukhovi became fully charged with the sound of pipes and drums this evening to the melodious reverberations of an hour long massbands display of the bands of various units of the Assam Rifles. These bands have been showing their skills, musical talent and military discipline before a team of judges to vie for the Director General Assam Rifles Inter Sector Band Competition Trophy.
Deshon Ka Sartaj Bharat, Amazing Grace and I Love the Highlands were some of the tunes played by the Bands while following complicated drill formations of squares, circles and crosses which concluded with the Retreat.
The audience comprising of Officers, JCOs and Other Ranks and their families were left toe tapping even when the finale had concluded.
A total of eleven bands have been camping in Sukhovi since September 25 and were tested for their marching skills, musical compositions, dress and turnout, and playing of individual instruments.
39 Assam Rifles band representing 9 Sector was presented the DGAR Inter Sector Band Trophy by Brig Pramod Behl, DIG Commandant Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, 26 Assam Rifles representing 5 Sector came second. Rfn YB Bhandari of 30 Assam Rifles was adjudged the Best Bugler and Hav Ajit Pal Singh Rawat was adjudged the Best Band Major.
