Robbery, extortion, accidents in Dimapur

Eight accidents, five of them major, were reported in Dimapur in the post-Christmas day besides a spate of other crimes that were registered.
Two persons involved in a robbery on December 29, were arrested separately by police.
According to police, one of the accused identified as one Lan Kamei (19) from Nungba village, Tamenglong, Manipur, currently residing at Burma camp was arrested on January 2, near DMC dumping area, Burma camp at around 8:30 a.m . The other accused, Keneiseleho Nakhro Kinney (26), a former IRB personnel from Jotsoma, Kohima, residing at Police colony was arrested earlier on December 30.
Police said the duo had abducted a businessman around Clock Tower junction area, near Axis Bank on December 29, while he was going home for lunch at around 2:30 pm. The businessman was taken towards old La Paloma (IMC Hall) where he was looted off his valuables that included- a laptop (Toshiba), Nokia cell phone, gold chain, gold ring, Sony Ericsson mobile phone and Rs.16, 700 and later released. Police recovered one .22 revolver (country made) with five rounds, the lap top, Nokia cell phone from one of the accused.
In a separate incident on Friday, police arrested four persons for allegedly demanding Rs 2000 from a brick factory owner at Bhavan Pukhuri ‘A’ Dimapur.
Police identified the four accused as Mughaho (22), Kakato, Nileshi (34), and Mughavi (22), son of Khakato, of Chisholi village, Zunheboto.
Road mishaps
Garo Hills SP, D.M. Sangma (MPS) and five others including a local girl were injured in a road mishap at Naharbari on December 31 at around 11:35 a.m.
Police said the accident occurred when the Gypsy (ML02-2633) in which they were traveling collided with oncoming Tavera Chevrolet (NL07-8522).
In another incident, one Gypsy bearing registration number (NL07-1847) hit a police mobile van near supermarket and went on to crash on an electric poll nearby, Wednesday last at around 3: 30 p.m.
In another case, a van (AS01L-0246) collided with another vehicle (NL10-0527) near East Police Station, Wednesday last at around 11:35 pm.
Two accident cases were reported on January 1. In the first a car (Swift) bearing registration number (NL07-6579) collided with a mini truck near West Police Station at around 6.30 am.
In the second incident, one truck belonging to electrical department bearing registration number (NL11-0540) hit an electric post near SP office at around 3.30 a.m. No one was injured in both incidents.
In another incident, a car (Getz – NL07-6579) was damaged after it collided head on with a truck (HR38-K-23/1773) on hire by army personnel to transport goods to Manipur, Friday.

Hit and run
An unidentified cyclist was critically injured by a speeding vehicle at 4th mile near Ceasefire Monitoring Cell at around 9:30 a.m, Friday.
