To provide rural connectivity to the farmers and to increase output and uplift the economy of the farmers, agriculture department constructed 8.00 Km of agri link road starting form zero point, to Teipuiki River valley at Benreu village on March 27.
The constructed link road would encourage farmers to go for commercial farming since villagers in the past had to carry their produce till the market bearing the harsh terrain.
The inaugural function was presided over by senior agriculture engineer engineer Shancho Odyuo.
The chief guest N. N. Zhasa emphasized the importance of agriculture in today’s world as without food no one could survive. He urged the participants to adopt system of rice intensification, and urged the participants to adopt the system of rice intensification for better yield and income and the importance of food security and exhorted the farmers for market oriented production.
The department’s vision of “food for all” was highlighted; adding that food is a fundamental right for every citizen and that one should strive to work is a necessity for which everyone should strive to work hard in order to have economic sustenance.
Director, agriculture department Dr. Supong Keitzar was the guest of honour. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of agriculture in today’s world and highlighted how agricultural based countries could survive when the world’s economy was going through depression. He impressed upon people to work for food and have economic sustenance, and also encouraged the villagers to take care of the agri link road for the long term benefit of the village as well as the neighboring villages.
While pronouncing the vote of thanks, former minister for tourism, Vatsu Meru stated that the villagers’ burden was washed-out as the tradition of carrying head load of paddy and other produces from the field was tiresome, time consuming while hindering crop production.
Mention may be made that Teipuiki Agri link road constructed under RIDF-X and funded by NABARD started in the year 2004.
