ZCN: Zeme Council Nagaland (ZCN) has condemned the recent violence upon Naga villages in North Cachar hills (NC hills) allegedly by DHD (J) Dimasa Cachari, killing 6 and critically injuring many.
A press release issued by Zeme council president Raitu Elu stated that Naga people in NC hills were settled from the beginning without interference from neighboring communities and if the ‘evil design’ persisted to disintegrate and break the age old communal harmony, the council would be compelled to initiate befitting response in the interest of Naga people.
ZCN also maintained that repeated actions by DHD (J) against innocent public should be seriously viewed and dealt with political will by the government of Assam and not remain as a ‘mute spectator’. It further stated that the government must extend immediate relief to the effected villages and compensate for loss of lives and properties and ensure resettlement of the people.
The council said the long silence of state machinery ‘speaks volumes of the attitude towards the Naga people, particularly the Zeme Naga’. ZNC therefore stated that in the event of government of Assam failing to bring justice must allow the Zeme Nagas to decide its future in the best interest of the people.
ZCN further appealed to Dimasa Cachari brothers to settle the issue amicably and also appealed to government of Nagaland and Manipur to take immediate measures to extend all possible assistance to the displaced people.
