Former IRB jawan held for raping minor girl in Dmu

Close on the heels of the shocking gang-rape on a 25-year old girl on March 25 by five persons at Darogapathar, another shock was in store when a minor girl was raped in Dimapur on Wednesday evening.
Dimapur Police identified the accused as one Alemba Sangtam (26) (former IRB personnel) who had raped the 13-year old minor on Wednesday evening. Police sources said the accused, Alemba Sangtam , who is the son of late Sahuto Sangtam of Kyusor village, Kiphire district was arrested at around 7.20 p.m. the same evening. The accused is a resident of Supply Colony Dimapur.
While not disclosing the name of the minor, police said the minor who is a victim, was waylaid by the accused and two of his friends while returning home after tuition at around 4 p.m. The accused and his accomplices forced the victim into an auto rickshaw, then took her to Sachu colony, Dimapur where he committed rape in one of his friend’s house.
Police said the victim managed to flee from the clutches of the accused and narrated the horrible incident to her relatives. The girl’s relatives went in search of the accused and managed to apprehend him. The accused was later handed over to police.
Police disclosed that both the victim, a local girl and the accused were sent for medical examination and reports were awaited at the time of filing this report. The accused has been remanded to police custody and further interrogation is on.
