May 12, 2009 | by admin

An amount of Rs.18 lakh in cash, meant to be deposited to make demand draft was reportedly robbed inside Axis Bank, Circular Road, Dimapur at around 11.25 a.m. Monday.
Sources said two employees of Hariram Baliram Enterprises carried the cash in a bag to the bank for making a draft in favour of Karnex Trading Company. While one of the employees was filling up the form, the other was supposed to guard the bag containing the cash. During this period, one unidentified person, believed to be a non local and wearing white shirt, calmly picked up the bag and fled without either of the employee noticing it.
Police strongly suspect something fishy in the whole episode particularly since none of the employees raised any alarm. Sources said the CCTV placed inside the bank, seemed to indicate that the employees were either unmindful or too careless. No alarm was raised by the employees, sources said.
Police team led by Dimapur ASP, V.Z Angami rushed to the spot to investigate the matter but no one could provide any clues except footage of the CCTV. Police detained the employees of Hariram Baliram Enterprises, identified as- Vinod Sharma and Ramautar Varma-for questioning. A third person was reportedly also taken for questioning.
Interestingly, none of the staff of the bank were able to properly operate the CCTV installed in the bank.
