State celebrates Nurses’ day

In commemoration of International Nurses’ Day celebrated on Tuesday at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, twenty eight retired nurses and nursing officers of Kohima district were felicitated for their noble services.
Speaking on the occasion Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Kiyaneilie Peseyie said that the state of public health was closely connected to quality services extended by nurses. He urged nurses of the state to inculcate a sense of belongingness to the society and recognize the significance of health in the process of economic and social development so as to improve quality of life.
He said nurses played a crucial role in carrying out their noble profession of extending health care to humanity and the crucial role that nurses play. He appealed to the nurses to extend equal and unbiased treatment to all patients irrespective of class of wealth.
He also asked them for rendering their service to the patients with smile and love, stating “consoling approach towards a patient has a healing effect and thereby you derive the blessings of Almighty God.”
Speaking on the growing emphasis on health care of the world community, the Speaker asked nurses to be the driving force in the field, and urged them to raise the standards of nursing service throughout the globe and provide a channel for international communication within the nursing profession.
Songs and role play on the theme “Delivering quality, service communities: nurses leading care innovation” were performed by nurses of NHAK. The programme was chaired by Yanbeni, President, TNAI, Local Branch, Kohima.
DIMAPUR: Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) local branch Dimapur celebrated International Nurses’ Day Tuesday on the theme ‘Delivering Quality, serving communities: Nurses leading care innovations’ at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) with Medical Superintendent DHD, Dr. Sukhato A.Sema as the speaker.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sukhato stated that nursing profession was a service for community and humanity, meeting the physical, mental, social, emotional, spiritual needs of human being.
Asserting that medical and nursing profession were always duty along with love, care and compassion, Dr. Sukhato said that it was qualities of love, compassion and care that made the medical/ nursing profession different from other profession.
He further stated that nurses’ mission was to lead societies toward better health and called upon the nurses to work together and harness knowledge and enthusiasm of the entire nursing profession to promote healthy lifestyles, healthy workplaces, and healthy communities.
Dr. Sukhato asserted that nursing was a discipline committed to professional excellence by providing highest quality care possible to its consumers and stated that serving the community and humanity would also reduce maternal/infant morbidity and mortality rates which were the main concerns of the medical profession as well as the Government of India.
Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy & health system in patient, health systems management, and education being the key nursing roles, Dr. Sukhato said that nurses had a great role in shaping the future of not only the medical but education system as well through community/ humanitarian services.
Earlier the programme started with invocation and special prayer for nurses by DHD Chaplain Rev. Mar, a short skit was presented by nurses, special songs were also delivered by a team of doctors and ended with the benediction by Sr. Gr. specialist Dr. Tetso.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 12 also marking the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
