NSS camping in Mopungchuket

June 12, 2009 | by admin

Volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) of Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School Impur began the five day summer camp on Friday at their adopted village, Mopungchuket Longrangtenem Resort. The camp is held under the theme “Healthy Youth, Healthy Society”.
The five-day camp would include teaching the volunteers to work with the people as well as developing the personalities of students through community service. The camp would also attempt to develop awareness and knowledge of social realities amongst the volunteers.
The inaugural session today was graced by Kenneth Penyu, Nagaland State Liaison Officer NSS, Kohima.
Delivering his speech at the session, he said “wherever a volunteer goes, he/she is easily recognized which he considered it as pride of NSS”.
He also added that goal of NSS was to develop the third quality to students which was ‘Personality’. He further added that an NSS volunteer gained life skills which were a must requisite for success. He called upon the volunteers to inculcate the sense of discipline in order to achieve one’s dream. He also sounded a regretful note when he said state’s bureaucrats and other leaders were yet to understand the full meaning of NSS and at the same time expressed optimism that in the near future, it would be a different picture.
The five day camp would include activities ranging from leadership building, environment enrichment and preservation, indigenous craftsmanship, eco-exploring activities and cultural exchange.
