DAN Govt in deep financial crisis:Chishi

June 26, 2009 | by admin

Renewing his earlier charge over the financial crisis, former chief minister and Congress MLA K.L.Chishi reiterated that the DAN government was in dire financial crisis with a huge deficit of over Rs.600 crore during April and which has today touched around Rs.900 crore.
Echoing the charge made by Congress spokesman S.I.Jamir MLA on the same issue, Chishi said when the DAN government, presented the vote on account during March 2009, it had pegged the deficit to Rs. 450 crore. He alleged that after the vote and account, when elections were declared, the DAN government had withdrawn Civil Deposits and as a consequence, there was no money to make payments to contractors and suppliers including teachers .
“The DAN government is totally bankrupt today”, Chishi alleged. According to Chishi, the state would receive whatever money due to it from the Centre under the consolidated fund but that would not make any impact of the huge deficit.
Further, he said unless the union budget was passed, the state cannot get funds under central sponsored schemes and under Non Lapsable Pool. Chishi however expressed doubts that the Centre would pour money without undertaking scrutiny over proper utilization funds. “All these could land the state in a very serious financial crisis” even attracting some corrective measures such as embargo , he added.
It may be recalled that former union minister Narayanan Swamy had said that the state had landed in a deficit of Rs.600 crore, while campaigning in the recent elections in Kohima.
