Gorkha Students’ Union Dimapur (GSUD) celebrated Bhanu Jayanti on Monday with chief manager, SBI, L B Pradhan as chief guest and Dimapur Gorkha Union, chairman, Kumar Subba as guest of honour at Town hall. The chief guest in his speech elaborated on the life of the birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya and urged the gathering to follow his examples. The programme was attended by more than two hundred Gorkhali’s in and around Dimapur town. Earlier the welcome address was delivered by vice president, (GUSD) while the life sketch on Bhanu Acharya was given by president, GSUD, Ranjan. Later a cultural programme was conducted in which various groups presented songs and dances.
It is pertinent to mention that translation of ‘Ramayana’ is one of Acharya’s most significant contribution to Nepali literature besides other literary creations like ‘Badhu Sikshya’, ‘Bhaktamala’, ‘Ram Gita’ and ‘Prasnottari’. The birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya (1814-1868 AD), the first poet writing in Nepali is also observed in Nepal by organizing various programmes. Acharya, popularly known as ‘Adikabi’, is mostly remembered for his contribution to promotion and expansion of Nepali literature.
