Leaving no stone unturned to make the environment of the ward a conducive and a peaceful one, the Dilong Yimden (Ward Authority) penalized three persons with the imposition of a pig each and a dateline of August 5 for the Yimden to lock the house of those three persons for selling liquor inside the ward jurisdiction. These moral policing by Yimden was carried out basing on the Article 6 of the Ward’s constitution, stated the Dilong Yimden.
Members of the Ward Executive invited the local scribes to witness the destruction of the seized liquor in front of the Youth-cum-Community Hall of the Ward. A huge quantity of assorted liquor was destroyed by burning it. Explaining, the motive behind the seizure, the members of Yimden said the Ward was celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year since the Yimden was established. Keeping in view of this celebration, the Yimden’s foremost priority was to maintain a peaceful and conducive environment free from all social evils, though it was added that such raids have been conducted earlier and that it will continue in the days to come even after the celebration of the jubilee.
The Yimden have been carrying surprise checking in suspected houses where liquor was being sold, as such checking was carried out on the evening of July 18 where sellers along with their liquor stocks and even drinkers were caught.
Subsequently, three liquor sellers were summoned to Ward’s court on Monday. However, the fates of the 13 drinkers were pardoned as it was the first time that drinkers were caught.
It is to be noted that Yimden had earlier issued an order to penalise even those found drinking.
