Herbert Spencer School Dimapur organized parents’ day on October 31 with the theme ‘To reap in joy’ which was attended by huge number of parents and guardians including elders of the Northern Angami Colony Walford.
Commenting on the importance of the day in the school curriculum, Kevise Sogotsu, President, Nagaland Timber Traders’ Union (NTTU) and chairman of the school managing board exhorted the parents to keep participating in the activities of the students to educate them collectively with their teachers.
While expounding the need of “good education to be given as gift to the children” by the teachers and parents, he said “a portion of our income should be prioritize or set aside for the education of the children” no matter where they study rather than unnecessarily spending on fashionable clothes, buildings, cars and so on. Impressed by the performance of the students and hard work of the teachers, he donated Rs 2000 each to 11 teachers and 1 office assistant as bonus apart from their salaries.
Earlier in the programme, Aton Shimrang, teacher pronounced invocation prayer and KM Karung, School Administrator greeted the parents while the headmaster moderated the interaction, N. Suokhrie, ex-pastor pronounced prayer and blessings. Students enthralled the gathering by belting out special numbers, presenting skits, choreographies, dances and jokes. A special choreography “Meri Ma – A tribute to mothers” and skit “The gardener” by the Music and Dramatics Club overwhelmed the gathering and was responded with thundering applause.
