Contraband items destroyed

Customs Department, Dimapur Division of Customs preventive Commissionerate, North Eastern Region (NER) destroyed a quantity of 1090.10 kgs of ganja and 6.13 kgs of heroin along with other psychotropic substances, valued at Rs. 91,16,850 at Chathe river on Saturday.
The contraband was seized from a total of 18 cases detected within a span of two and a half years from February 28, 2007 to July 28, 2009. In one of the case brown sugar was recovered and seized while it was being shipped by a person under a false name and addressed to a consignee to U.K through a bogus courier service neatly concealed in two ladies purses. Out of 18 cases, 11 cases are still unclaimed and while 9 offenders were arrested in the remaining 7 cases.
Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), North East Region S R Baruah, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Dimapur, P K Das along with other officials were also present at the spot of destruction.
