Media should be more responsible: Alemtemshi

Joining the rest of the country, the media fraternity of the state and the Directorate observed the National Press Day under the theme “the changing ace of Indian Media with special reference to Nagaland” at the KPC conference hall here on Monday.
Additional Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir who was the special guest on the occasion reminded that media was not a one way communication and urged the media to include the participatory view of the people. He also stressed the need for the media personnel to have philosophy of their own.
Dwelling on the historical aspects of the media and the powerful role it played in various stages of transforming society and civilization, he reminded the need for the media to be more responsible.
Alemtemshi Jamir stated that mankind was influenced and changed by the media and stressed on the need of the Press persons to develop their own philosophy whereby people can learn from them.
He said the press and media have to keep pace with technology, adding that technological know-how and competence would inturn make a person grow.
Jamir also asserted on the press and media’s need to communicate with people at the government and policy making level about what people think and further educate policy makers about people’s views which will ultimately lead to participatory growth.
Alemtemshi Jamir urged the press to bridge the gap emerging in Naga society between the informed Naga society and uninformed Naga society. He said that the press and media have a very important role to play with regard to the issue of equality of the human race and further encouraged them to dwell more intensively on concepts such as human rights, governance and freedom.
Earlier, Commissioner and Secretary Planning, I.Himato Zhimomi, IFS while speaking on ‘The Changing Face of Indian Media with Special Reference to Nagaland’ urged upon the media to feel the pulse of the people.
Stressing on the need to focus on real issues, Himato encouraged the emergence of a mass of intelligentsia with whom government can have interface. He said that the ‘packaging’ of society depends on the journalists and therefore urged the press and media to bring about that interface.
Earlier, Kids for Fame winner 2009 Ashuni Lirüna made a special appearance on the occassion.
