Excise sleuths in the wee hours of Wednesday seized 650 kg contraband ganja worth about Rs.16, 25, 000 – in black market – from a truck (NL-01-D5541) near Naharbari village gate junction, Dimapur. The contraband ganja, weighing 650 kg and neatly packed in 47 different packets, was recovered from truck’s secret chamber. It was reportedly loaded at Dimapur and was bound for Tinsukia, Assam. Talking to this Reporter, the excise Dimapur (narcotics) deputy commissioner Nribemo Lotha said it had received a tip-off, about a month ago, that huge amount of ganja transaction was likely to be made in the district. He also said that since the illegal consignment was stashed in truck’s secret chamber, it could have easily evaded detection during routine checking. Two persons identified as Sanjay Yadav (32) from Bihar and Prakash Patel (38) from UP have been arrested in connection with the case. On interrogation, the arrested reportedly revealed that there were another two main racketeers. The arrested have been forwarded to the court under NDPS Act 1985. Meanwhile, the department official said detailed investigation was underway to ascertain the origin of seized ganja and also to arrest the remaining two, currently at large.
