Training on pest management in Tizit

August 23, 2010 | by admin

One-day farmers’ training on rodent management and integrated pest management was conducted at Tizit village on August 16.
More than 50 farmers attended the training programme. During the training programme, SDAO, Tizit reminded the farmers that it was only a few decades ago that pest control in crops was mainly based on the use of chemical pesticides but now it is widely felt that chemical pesticides alone were not to be used because indiscriminate use of pesticidal chemicals led to various problems such as, disturbance in natural eco-system, developing resistance in pests for the chemicals, resurgence of pest, secondary pest outbreak and environmental pollution, residual toxicity in food crops, posing health hazards to human and livestock. All these problems contributed to a new way of thinking concerning pest management i.e. integrated pest management. The training programme concluded with distribution of Rodenticides and IPM kits to the farmers.
