: United Naga Council (UNC) on Sunday maintained that the tripartite talks held December 3 at Tahamzam (Senapati) was necessitated from the memorandum it submitted to the government of India September 14 last, demanding the Center to provide alternative arrangement for Naga people in the present state of Manipur.
Stating although its demand was devoid of any anti-state or anti-nation element(s), UNC publicity wing, in a statement alleged that many were deliberately trying to dilute the Naga movement and the term ‘alternative arrangement’ by distorting its political face using expressions such as ‘sovereignty to greater Nagalim’, to ‘state and Union territory’ etc.
Clarifying that ‘alternative arrangement’ was political in nature, requiring political status from the government of India in consultation with the aggrieved party/parties, UNC stated it was improper for political parties, civil societies or individuals to sabotage the “rightful demand of the marginalized hill people in Manipur” with their presumptions, prior to the Center’s comment on the same.
The council also appealed for all to refrain from vitiating one another’s approach, adding it would be wise for communities to address their rights on the table of the concerned authorities for consideration.
UNC has announced earlier that Naga people in the present state of Manipur had severed all political ties with Manipur government on July 1, 2010, demanding Center’s intervention for alternative arrangement.
