A student of general nursing and midwifery (GNM) School of Nursing NHAK, Vilasenuo Suokhrie from Kohima village topped the class of 2010 GNM and also became a recipient of 9th late Mrs Ketsovole Kire Award.
Altogether, 64 nurses from School of Nursing NHAK and Imkongliba Memorial Hospital (IMH) Mokokchung successfully graduated their GNM course.
Vilasenuo Suokhrie, who topped the class with 75.31%, was awarded cash award of `8, 000 along with certificate as citation for Lt. Mrs Ketsovole Kire Award.
The award ceremony cum GNM graduation was held Tuesday in the presence of family members of Lt. Ketsovole Kire and officials of NHAK.
Speaking on behalf of the family of late Ketsovole Kire, MLA Dr. Nicky Kire described nursing profession as a dignified profession and that their role was becoming increasingly more demanding. He therefore encouraged nurses to further expand their knowledge with computer skills, and urged the present trainees to be inquisitive while learning so as to gain practical knowledge for future prospects.
Also speaking at the occasion, Dr. Joyce Angami remarked that late Ketsovole Kire was a pioneer in nursing profession and that her legacy still continues as an inspiration for others.
Medical superintendent of NHAK, Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie stated healing does not necessarily require medicine but also love and care, and urged nurses to approach their patients with a loving attitude.
He encouraged them to go further, update themselves with more knowledge.
Principal of School of Nursing NHAK, V. Kechu encouraged the graduating nurses to give their best in serving humanity. Giving a report on annual result, Kechu informed that out of the total 64 graduating nurses, 32 were from school of nursing, NHAK and the rest 32 from Mokokchung.
In NHAK, 3 nurses bagged the first division and 29 2nd division; while in IMH Mokokchung, 1 bagged first division, 22 2nd division and 9 simple pass.
Earlier, presentation of certificates to nurses, capping and taking of pledge was led by Kiyasetuonuo Solo, nursing superintendent NHAK, while speeches were delivered by Vilasenuo Suokhrie, and other outgoing students. Song was presented by first year GNM nurses while Tiakala, nursing tutor chaired the programme.
