Naga United Village on Tuesday celebrated its 43rd foundation day with parliamentary secretary horticulture R Khing as chief guest.
Located adjacent to CIHSR, the village founded way back in 1968, is inhabited by different tribes.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the chief guest in his speech lauded the efforts of the villagers for successfully completing 43 years.
Expressing his appreciation for making the village as a model for other villages despite the differences, Khing also reminded them of the sacrifices made by the village founders while establishing it.
Underscoring the need for unity among the villagers, the parliamentary secretary also pointed out the village was like ‘mini Nagaland’ taking into consideration the various tribes constituting the population.
Khing pointing out that unlike earlier days where Naga people were reluctant to settle down in plain areas and foothills, said the demography has changed completely.
The chief guest also urged the youth to imbibe work culture and reinstate the symbol of Naga, which he added were honesty, truthfulness, simplicity, hospitality and hard work. He further impressed upon the VDB and VC to prioritize any developmental work before implementing it.
Elucidating on the stance taken up by the state government, Khing said chief minister, Neiphiu Rio was concerned about peace process in Nagaland.
While harping on giving development a chance in Nagaland, Khing said the theme of the government was ‘peace for development and development for peace’.
The chief guest also laid down the foundation for the village council hall before the programme commenced.
Earlier, welcome speech was delivered by village council chairman Wezheipe Lekhro.
A brief history on the village was narrated by head GB Sani Chakre.
Other highlights of the programme were presentation of cultural various items and exhibition matches among the villagers.
