A deputy commissioner level meeting between Sibsagar district of Assam and Longleng district of Nagaland was held February 8 last at Assam armed police station, Singibil to discuss the border issue.
In the meeting, the DC Longleng C.K Nihekhu Sema refuted to allegation made by DFO Sibsagar that there was rampant encroachment and burning of jungle at Geleky reserve forest especially from Nagaland side, a statement issued by SDO (C) Tamlu, T.Wati Aier said.
The DC Longleng C.K Nihekhu Sema said that traditional boundary of Assam and Nagaland was “Ladigarh Line” which existed even today, adding Assam has clearly violated the “Ladigarh Line” and encroached upon Nagas’ land through brutal force.
“Even the GPS building constructed by Nagaland education department is being used as a AAP post at Ladigarh,” the SDO (C) quoted DC as saying. He added that the building used to be the poling station No.1 of 49 Tamlu A/C.
Further, DC Longleng said that one Borphukan had tricked and deceived the innocent Namsang villagers into selling their lands in the year 1989 and since then a huge tea garden has been established.
In this connection the DC Longleng submitted three-appeal to Assam, that AAP leave the GPS building at Ladigarh; that Assam stop all developmental works in and around Ladigarh “A” and “B” village areas and that AAP stop “threatening” Ladigarh villagers “not to cooperate with Nagaland government.”
SDO (C) reiterated DC’s remark that Yanglok villagers were only cultivating their traditional jhum land. “The question of Geleky reserve forest does not arise, as the forest jhum land belongs to Yonglok villagers since time immemorial,” said the SDO (C).
The Longleng district administration also stated that a neutral force (CRPF) be stationed in sector “F” as it was practice in all the sectors of Assam-Nagaland border areas.
It also noted that posting of AAP in Ladigarh/Singibil has given “free for all” opportunity to the Assam public to encroach upon Nagas’ Land.
According to SDO (C) Tamlu, the SP Sibsagar asked SP Longleng to refer the matter with the higher-ups for immediate posting of neutral force. The meeting was attended by DC Sibsagar, SP Sibsagar, SDO (C) Hazira, DC Longleng, SP Longleng, SDO (C) Tamlu and Longleng, SDPO Longleng and forest beat officer.
