World Consumer Rights Day observed

DIMAPUR: In Dimapur World consumer Rights Day’ was observed at at Millennium Market Complex. Representatives of Legal Metrology AND Consumer Protection department and Consumer Society Dimapur District attended the programme. Participants deliberated on creating consumer awareness, how consumers could discharge their responsibilities, consumer protection Act etc.
MOKOKCHUNG: Deliberations on the urgent need to conduct awareness campaign on consumers’ rights, down to the grass root level, mass involvement of students’ community, inclusion of consumer protection act in school syllabus and seminars in educational institutions marked the observance of ‘World consumer Rights Day’ at Mokokchung town on Tuesday.
The discussion was held at a seminar-cum-workshop at Longkumer Kilem, jointly organized by the state department of legal metrology and consumer protection and Mokokchung district voluntary consumer organization.
Advocate B. Taku, president, Mokokchung Bar Association speaking on the theme, dwelt on redressal of consumer’s grievances under Consumer Protection Act 1986 and stressed on the need to equip with the rights.
He also addressed the participants on procedures for taking grievances to appropriate consumer forum.Advocate I. Mangko, who was the chief guest said it was a must in the part of consumers to acquaint with rights provided under the Act to ensure that they are not cheated by manufacturers, sellers and retailers.
Ao Senden president, Lendi, Watsu president, Dr. Arenla Walling, Ao Students Conference, vice president, chairmen and representatives of all wards in Mokokchung town while assuring cooperation to the department and Mokokchung district voluntary consumer organization suggested to gear up awareness campaign on consumer rights in the district.
WOKHA: ‘World Consumer Rights Day’ in Wokha was observed at main traffic point Wokha, organized by department of legal metrology and consumer protection, Wokha with deputy commissioner Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor as the chief guest and district and session judge Wokha V. Nyekha as the theme speaker. The DC called on the consumers to assert and fight for their rights as per the rights and duties framed by the government to safeguard the interest and welfare of the consumers.
Speaking on the theme “Consumer, discharge your responsibilities! Assert your rights”, V. Nyekha said every individual should fight for his rights and responsibilities to improve consumer activities.
He also added that, if any consumer was not satisfied with the quality of products, standards and prizes of goods and unfair trade practices, they can always call for legal action to safeguard consumer interest. The function was chaired by assistant controller, legal metrology and consumer protection Wokha, Limatoshi.
