water supply to be Affected till October
Heavy rainfall that triggered landslides along Chathe River banks have damaged about 110 meters of water pipeline which caters to the citizens of Dimapur and Chumukedima. Taking to mediapersons at his office Wednesday, PHED executive engineer T. Imtiakum said the damage has caused complete stoppage of normal water supply and would take time to restore it. He said the damaged has affected nearly 921 consumers of Dimapur and Chumukedima. The pipeline was damaged in three areas along the river bank, he said, adding repairing cannot be done currently due to monsoon season. He, however, assured that the water supply would resume by the month of October. The total cost of the damage has been estimated at Rs 5, 25, 800. Meanwhile, requesting the consumers to bear with the inconvenience caused the department has assured to solve the matter at the earliest. According to a department official, minimum of 16 lakhs ltrs of water per day are being supplied during the months of March-April and maximum of 40 lakhs ltrs per day in other months.
