Orgs demand search committee for NU VC

Various organizations which met the search committee on Saturday demanded for the best suitable person for the post of vice chancellor (VC) Nagaland University. The Nagaland University Teachers’ Association (NUTA), Nagaland University Non- teaching staff association (NUNSTA), post graduate students union, Nagaland private college principals’ forum, Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers Association (NMA) and Naga Students’ Federation reportedly put forth the demand to the three members search committee led by former vice chancellor, NEHU Prof. Miri during their meeting at NU main campus, Lumami.  The members of the search committee Prof. Miri, vice chancellor of Jorhat Agriculture University and vice chancellor of Jharkhand University arrived Nagaland Friday on the invitation of NUTA. Talking to Nagaland Post, member, NUTA Rosemary Dzuvichu said the association during the meeting had put up certain conditions to the search committee stating the new VC of the Nagaland University should be a tribal academician hailing from the Northeast and that it would not accept any retired officials.  “Furthermore, the new VC should not be a person with questionable integrity”, she added.  It was also learnt that following the stiff opposition of NUNTSA and also as per the protocol of the university, the incumbent VC, Prof. K. Kannan did not attend the meeting.
