Pangti village of Wokha district staged an agitation to show resentment over delay of MNREGA issue outside deputy commissioner’s office Wokha on July 13. In a response to the agitating villagers the administration replied that a final summon on July 19 has been notified to the 14 accused. Meanwhile, the villagers have decided to call off the agitation for the time being on the assurance given by the DC that final judgment would be declared within July 31.According to leaders of the village, some people allegedly misused a huge amount of MNREGA money (`24 Lacs) for which the public officially approached the administration in the month of December 2010 for solving their problem through legal means. The administration verified the case and prepared a detailed audit report and declared 14 people guilty of the fund misused on June 8. Earlier, a meeting was conducted on June 23 at DC’s office where some of the guilty/accused (as notified by the district administration) in their resentment decided not to submit statement for which the case could not be settled.
