‘World Population Day’ with the theme “Small Family: Overall Development” was observed on July 11 at Kiphire Police point. The program was organized by the district health society, Kiphire.
DC C.M Tsanglao graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other dignitaries from the medical department, social welfare, rural department, education, NGO’s, town committees and community leaders also attended the programme.
Dr. Khriesi, deputy CMO gave a brief talk on population explosion in India and its affect on the overall development in the society, and said a small family ensures better education, health and a better future.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest expressed gratitude and acknowledged the medical department and all the participants present in the function for being a part of the population day. With the population increasing at a very alarming rate, he believed a small family was an effective family and self sufficient.
Other guest speakers also shared their views and concerns with regard to population.
A short skit was performed by the Evangelical Union Kiphire on the theme “Family Planning”.
Meanwhile, Senapati district also commemorated ‘World Population Day’ on July 11.
The programme was organized by Naga Peoples Organization (NPO) where leaders and well-wishers gathered at its head office conference hall and highlighted that, 3 sub-divisions remained uncounted since the last 2 decades.
The gathering discussed about the repeated exclusion of these sub-divisions and vowed to continue its movement of including in the 2011 National Census list.
Condemning the “suppressive and hidden motives” of some state machinery to exclude the said sub-divisions on the pretext of “abnormal growth, the gathering reiterated that, any force cannot deny the birth-right to be counted in world population list.
