In the backdrop of illegal collections and rampant extortion by several underground factions and illegal organizations in Dimapur, Police on Monday arrested three person in two separate incidents.
In Ghorapatti area “two NSCN belonging to the unification camp” were arrested while they were stopping and collecting illegal taxes from trucks entering Nagaland after crossing the Newfield check gate, PRO Dimapur police said.
The arrested cadres were identified as ‘ss’ sectional officer Elobemo Jami son of Sanglamo of Chuti village Wokha and ‘ss’ Raja Peyu Chemthungo son of Yantso of Yampang village Wokha along with a third accomplice who escaped, PRO said. Cash amounting to Rs 4000 which was illegally collected from the trucks were also seized from one of the cadres. A case has been registered against the duo.
In another case, Dimapur police personnel arrested one ‘ss’ under secretary of NNC, Akato son of Viyeto, Hakizhe village while collecting taxes from businessmen between Plaza restaurant to City Tower area on Monday around 1.30 p.m., PRO said. Three taxation information slips of NNC along with Rs 6550 was seized.
On preliminary examination, Police said the accused revealed that the tax collection slips were handed over to him on Saturday last (July 16) by one Akaba Sangtam alias Midas ‘ss’ finance secretary NNC presently residing at Burma Camp.
The accused also revealed that on receiving the information slips he immediately distributed it to the businessmen between Plaza restaurant to City Tower area.
A case has been registered against Akato, police said.
